In 2005, AWWA was selected and nomination as a major partner by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MOSJE) to undertake ‘Assistive Aids & Devices Camps’ which includes distribution of equipment like wheel chairs, tri-cycles, mobile booths, hearing aids, etc. to the disabled people in the remote areas of J&K, North East and Andaman regions of India.
These camps were organized for the first time as a collaborative effort of AWWA, MOSJE, ALIMCO (Artificial Limb Manufacturing Corporation of India), OPCAR and Deen Dayal Upadhaya Institute for physically handicapped.
Towards this purpose, assessment camps have been conducted at Akhnoor, Allahabad, Andaman, & Nicobar, New Delhi, Kargil, Kolkata, Lucknow, Jabalpur, Palanwalan (J&K), Pathankot, Shillong and Udhampur.
Equipment worth Rs.2 crores from MOSJE has been distributed by AWWA to the needy and disabled people.
