On 12 June 06, in great hope of bringing opportunity and empowerment to the less fortunate ones by implementing the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) in villages around cantonments all over the country.
By doing so AWWA would be harnessing the potential of a very large section of our society, that is, the families of ex-servicemen, widows, destitute ladies, wives of serving personnel and other people, to generate employment and socio -economic upliftment in rural areas.
Every year, about 1500 women join the list of AWWA widows and more than 55,000 soldiers retire. We are duty bound to rehabilitate them socially and economically.
In last one year 29 Awareness Camps have been carried out sensitizing 1 Lakh Ex-servicemen and soldiers. Some projects have become commercial and many are in the pipeline. The oil extraction project under Southern Comd is a grand example of the success of President AWWA's vision. In this project 126 ex-servicemen including number of Veer Naris were encouraged to establish a cooperative and start a mill. The project is making edible oils. Similarly a pickle making project in Western Comd has obtained FPO licence. Project Swavlamban at Barabanki in Central Command is making cotton dusters under AWWA-KVIC REGP projects.
