WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROJECTS

President AWWA Mrs Anupama Singh has stated "I would like that, the vision for the future should focus on harnessing and building collective energies to address the aspirations of our environment and create sustainable models for empowerment for our members, veer naris, children and ex servicemen. To do so we have to adopt the development approach."

For effective translation of this vision it is felt that socio-economic empowerment is the key to ameliorate the lives of veer naris, ex servicemen and its member population.

1. AAHWAN. AAHWAN in Hindi means 'A Call'. It's AWWA's call for women empowerment especially for our underprivileged and needy members. AWWA essentially emphasizes socio-economic empowerment, rather than encourage grants which fulfills a requirement of a person for a short time. One such project called 'Aahwan' for candle making and hand made paper products has been set up at Delhi Cantt. In 2005 giving employment to 35 women. The project is a noble vision of Mrs Anupama Singh and a call for the rising and empowerment of our women. Many war widows and other active members are being empowered economically in this project.

Aahwan is designing and creating novelty products like Wax Candles, Hand made Paper bags, Files, Diaries and other handicraft items.

OUR PRODUCTS:
Wax Candles, Asha Cards, Wrapping Papers, Hand Made Paper Bags, Files, Diaries and Other Handicrafts.

Our wax candles contain high quality paraffin wax and other ingredients. These are smokeless, drip less and have considerably high melting point available in various shapes, colours and sizes. The wax products are tested and certified by one of the India's prestigious testing laboratory. Our candles are available in variety of designs: spheres, pillars, cubes, spirals, T lites, marbling, chipping, engraved, scented etc. We care for quality and ensure that the designs are created aesthetically. Our handmade paper bags are a perfect fit for any purpose. The bags with matching cords and exquisite decorations are an ideal option for gift hampers and even as an environment friendly carry bag. We make paper bags of various sizes, textures and designs of exclusive collections. We also make other novelties like hand made paper diaries, files, folders, boxes and photo frames etc.

2. AWWA's LUNCH PROJECT. Another initiative is our AWWA Lunch Project for Army HQ, New Delhi. Hurried young wives getting children ready for school, preparing breakfast, and readying themselves for another working day, said they would find a readymade meal for their husbands a boon if the food was fresh and tasty. Our President also remembers how, as a young officer, her husband hated the idea of carrying a tiffin ,as also how a cold meal can be quite unappetizing. We are still trying out various menus and combinations using inputs from consumers (more desi, less sweet, low calories etc!) But the neatly packed lunch boxes have become increasingly popular and there is a growing monthly demand as well. The project has employed 15 workers to meet the requirements. The project's stall at Delhi Haat was one of the popular one among the visitors.

3. JIWAN JYOTI SAREE PROJECT. A saree making project was inaugurated on 28th May 06 at Maratha Regimental Centre, Belgaum, Karnataka by our President AWWA, Mrs Anupama Singh. Six power looms have been established generating employments for 12 women. The project has the capacity of making 18 sarees a day. A variety of sarees in traditional and contemporary designs in cotton and silk are being made.
